Division/Team: Construction Team

Reports To: Foreman


Under the supervision of the foreman, the journeyman must maintain, repair and install electrical systems and services effectively as per drawings and work cohesively with team members to effectively complete projects.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Install new, and/or repair wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, and components of machinery and equipment following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Install and/or repair control and distribution apparatus, including motors, relays, switches, thermostats, and circuit breaker panels.
  • Install and/or connect power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus for machines and equipment following diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Diagnoses and resolve problems in electrical circuits using testing instruments.
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble and install electrical conduit, using measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threader and conduit bender.
  • Receive and complete work orders.
  • Select material and hardware and make time and material estimates.
  • Inspect jobs after completion and ensure areas are clean.
  • Operate tools and equipment in accordance to established safety procedures.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
  • Correct any unsafe conditions and report any conditions that are not correctable to foreman immediately.
  • Mentor apprentices and teach them the skills of the trade.


  • Valid Journeyman license
  • Maintain a valid Ontario college of trades certificate
  • Ability to supervise and guide apprentices’
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment
  • Valid G driver’s license
  • Ability to work power equipment
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and written reference manuals effectively
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instruction
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve problems

Division/Team: Construction Team

Reports To: Foreman/Journeyman


The primary function of this position is to perform electrical installations while learning from the Foreman and Journeyman on the job site. Apprentices are to work under the supervision of a Journeyman while assisting, performing tasks independently. The ultimate purpose of this job is that the Apprentice gains hands-on experience to learn the skills of the trade.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Complete installation tasks independently and/or assist electricians.
  • Learn installation methods from Journeyman.
  • Follow safety protocols.
  • Take initiative in learning different areas of electrical.
  • Develop an understanding of the electrical codes.


  • High school diploma an asset.
  • Pre-Apprenticeship training is considered an asset.
  • Safety certifications considered an asset [WHMIS, Working at Heights, Mobile Elevated Work Platform, Workplace Violence & Harassment, First Aid/CPR].


  • Ability to work flexible hours (early morning, evening, and night shift).
  • Valid G driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel outside of the GTA.
  • Experience using power and hand tools related to the trade.
  • Basic knowledge of the electrical trade.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to fill out forms effectively.
  • Good reading and communication skills.
  • Ability to use Word/ Excel.
  • Good critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Strong initiative and willingness to learn.
  • Effective time management.
  • Attentive listening skills and ability to execute after instruction.

  • Always maintain a professional appearance when representing CHE.
  • Report for work ahead of time and prepared to start shift at the scheduled time.
  • Protect and respect all CHE property used.
  • No personal calls/headphones at work.
  • Show up to the job site with all the tools required in working order.
